"After a Break"

So sorry about the lack of updates these past days. As much fun it is working with tight finance deadlines during year end, it can be super exhausting. Last week after all the hard work I took a break from everything.

Here's a quickie! An outfit post from a weekend well spent playing in the snow. Though Stockholm is freezing numb to step outside, with woolen socks, ears tucked into scarves and double lining gloves being lifesavers, yet it has been very cozy past few weeks with thick layers of snow and sub-zeros temps bestowing an opportunity to indulge in hot drinks and restore my baking routines.

So, stay tuned for the some cozy snaps and baking recipes in the coming weeks!

Have a great Weekend!

Christmas season is here in full swing so I spent last Sunday strolling around in the city, absorbing Christmassy atmosphere, sniffing the scrumptious donuts smell in the air, looking at the shops decorated in red, gold, colors sparkling like diamonds. The lit up fancy reindeer structures and Christmas trees are standing tall in every nook and corner of Stockholm.

This is the time when I love to munch brända mandlar (burnt almonds covered with sugar in vanilla, sesame, cinnamon) while walking down the streets of the city center. Although the streets sides are covered with thick layer of snow and the temperature has fallen down to -11 degree but the town center was packed with people. No snow can't stop those who want to paint the town in the season of joy. On my way back home I bought some Lucekatte - Saffron buns and we had it with some warm Glögg and nuts.

I believe you will see snow and more snow in my future posts. I wore this outfit few days ago. Here I paired up grey sweatshirt with a plaid skirt. As you might already know I love to pair up sporty and girly. Adding white and silver necklace seems like a wise decision, it injects life to the whole look instantaneously.

Tip - A grey sweatshirt pairs up very well with all colors, with
pants and skirts thus I would recommend it as a must have for every wardrobe.

Animal Print wins my heart finally!

Like Sequins and Studs, Animal Print is big this winter. I was not a big fan of animal prints until this autumn, when I identified if styled right it can be the most precious piece of your wardrobe and i
t makes you look hands-down chic and classy. I do believe it is one of the tricky trends wherein one wrong move can make you look down at heel.

The styling secret for animal prints is to "Keep it Simple"

Be it animal print sweater, shoes, trousers, handbags, coat, the trick is to pair it up with solid colors like black and white. Avoid clashing prints and if you feel too wild in an overall animal printed ensemble, tone it down with a single colored cardigan and knee high black boots.

I want to invest in leopard print ankle boots and if I am lucky a coat as well. It has to be classy and does not make me look like a rug. Remember one wrong move..!

If you have a fashionista within you, go for the daring print and make some heads turn :)

Retro Blues!

With winter, sets in the scene for cozy knits, furry snoods, warm boots and textured tweeds. Tweed always reminds me of still from vintage movies - actor wearing classy tweed coat waits for someone outside a retro bar on a chilly night or an Irish man on his way to hunt.

Year after year this classy fabric is revamped into contemporary styles. This fall/winter it has made a big appea
rance again and here is me celebrating the glorious history with this outfit :)

I have paired up a houndstooth patterned tweed shorts in a warm brown color with a burgundy cable knit sweater. Adding an embellished peter pan collar makes the sweater irresistibly cute.

Sheer tights as you know are indispensable now. They let me adapt to the colder weather without sacrificing my short dresses. How I love 'em!

Shorts & Tights - H&M (Shorts are now available on sale in stores)
Sweater & Collar - H&M
Shopper Bag - Zara

Tip - Don't fear the winter! Don't make it an excuse to stay indoor, embrace it in style with your cozy outfits and a steaming cup of coffee. As they say in Sweden 'Det finns inget dåligt väder, bara dåliga kläder' which means "There is no bad weather, only bad clothing." ..... Eller Hur?

Happy Weekend!

What is Fashion? O.o

Have some or all of you been wondering why do I post random stuff about the quotes I like, what I eat or about my gym routines on Facebook, Instagram? The answer is disguised in the big question what is fashion to you?

Fashion to me is a lifestyle that reflects attitude and value of a person. Its in what I cook and eat, its in the way I design my house, its the my hobbies, its in how I dress up e...
veryday, its in my health & fitness regime, its n the books I read, in the movies I watch and the music I listen. To become fashionable you don't need to do different things, you just need to do things differently.

As Coco Chanel said "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."

Through this blog I not only intend to inspire you with wardrobe styling but also motivate you to follow your dream lifestyle, to step out of your comfort zone, to take out time for yourself, to do things that really make you happy, to be good in whatever you do and be healthy.

“How does one become a butterfly?"
"You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.”

I would love to hear what is Fashion to you though?

Ways to wear White Tee -- Styling Secrets

Did you know, that white t-shirt lying in the non famous corner of your wardrobe is the most imperative clothing must have? Is it being put to use only during work-out sessions or under a sweater on a chilly evening? If yes, then I definitely need to shake you up and open your eyes to the incredibly gorgeous and timeless style statements that can be achieved from this understated piece of your closet.

From the hundreds of ways to wear the white t-shirt, here are a few of my styling secrets. Hope you can benefit from these and resurrect your non famous plain to most wanted chic as this is what "Plainjanesfashionrescue" is about :)

24X7 Classic - Pair up an oversized white tee, with a pair of blue denim jeans. This is a classic look that will never age up.

Daytime Trendy - Deviate from the normal and pair up your white tee with a colored denim/trouser - red, blue, green, orange. Go bizarre with the color choice, white looks good with any color. Tuck in the T-shirt for a trendy ensemble.

Daytime Chic - Short Skirts - A spring summer favorite yet you can work it in winter with leggings. Pair you tee with a short plain, pleated, plaid or a printed skirt. Finish it off with heels to class it up.

Daytime cool - Shorts - Put on any shorts be it denim, athletic, cargo or plaids, hot pants and throw on your white tee. You can even color block it with even a third color handbag and you're ready to rock your grill party or a Sunday movie.

9:00-17:00 Office - Coat - You have to wear it to believe that your versatile white tee can be your best friend at work. Pair it with a black coat and any trouser or a skirt (pencil, pleated, A-line or fitted) for a smart casual official outfit.

Evening Serenity - Long Skirt - Hands-down favorite! The casualness of the tee matched with the flowy long skirt instantly gives you a bohemian chic vibe.

Evening in vogue - Dress up your white tee with a leather pant or a leather skirt and a handsome pair of heels. Throw in a biker jacket and a scarf for a chilly night out.

One Fine Morning!

Hustling off to work one morning on a cold breezy autumn day, longing desperately for a steaming cup of coffee it struck my mind that its the little things in life that make us happy like fresh flowers, chocolate cake, falling in love, seeing your family after a long time, hugging your loved ones, laughing till tears flow down your cheeks and you clap your hands like a retarded seal, listening to your favorite song over and over again, pleasant surprises, crying of happiness, looking at a breathtaking scenery, having good times with your friends.

The mantra is to find beauty in small things, to not to limit yourself, to make your passion a priority, to focus your energy on good.

So, the next time you drink coffee or tea, take in the smell and the flavor. When you breathe, feel the air enter your lungs :-)

I prioritize and live my passion through my fashion blog, trust me this makes me very happy, really!

Fashion Tip for the day - Add a bright popping color shoe, bag or accessory to your dark colored outfit and transform it instantly from dull and boring to chic and stylish.

Stay happy & blessed my lovelies!

That It Rains!

Every time that it rains, it takes me down the memory lane and stops at the doorsteps of the music vocal class from school days. The vague memory of us tiny, signing 'Raindrops keep falling of my head' and 'A 100 miles' leaves a cherishing smile.

'Raindrops keep falling on my head' is a classic favorite. I will post the video just after this photo post and throw you back into the 70's. Just lie back on the couch and time travel into your best times.

Raindrops keep fallin

g on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling

So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he' got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling

A Pair and a Spare - My first DIY!

Last weekend I was on a wardrobe cleanup mission with an aspiration to prioritize winter clothing. As much as I love my wardrobe, I hate this half yearly season re-arrangement. Indubitably I was standing on toes for 3 hrs folding packing and

While doing the chore I noticed a pair of jeans I have not worn since ages. There was a moment when I wanted to discard it and in the next I had an idea for my first DIY project - A Knee Ripped Jeans which is at present making a statement in denim world.

There's something simply chic about knee ripped jeans, you need a hair dryer and Coldplay music in the background, just that and you will be banging your head to the rock.

How to get the desired knee ripped jeans is demonstrated in the photo. All you need is a pen and a pair of scissors. A designer ripped denim can cost fortune but why to shell fortune when you can create one.

1) Put the jeans on as it makes the ripping process accurate. This way you will know exactly where rips are going to be. Decide where you want the rips to be. This is important as some people might like rips on the knee cap. I wanted them on the upper part of the knee so I marked it accordingly in the horizontal direction.

3) For a worn look, sand the area you are going to cut with rough sandpaper. I chose to go for a clean cut thus avoided the sandpaper. Fold one leg of the jeans vertically in half aligning the side seams so you don't cut through to the other side of the leg. Cut half way through to the seam alignment. Repeat the process for the other leg too.

4) Your totally chic jeans is ready. Use end of your scissors or knife or a seam ripper to fray from the cuts, if you will.

PS - Each rip will increase in size as you wear your jeans. Don't get too carried away with the cut if you want a more subtle ripped look.

Moral of the story - recycle your clothes, Go Green! :) Far from being discarded, this jeans is now a possible Outfit choice for 'Rahet Fateh Ali Khan Event' tomorrow evening. Give me suggestions what kind of top should I combine with it?

‎'Hand Knitted with Love'

Me and my bro grew up wearing sweaters that our Mum knitted for us. She still does for me! Every year when I travel back home during winter I get one like a Christmas present :-)

Back home I still possess my Mum's hand crafted treasure, somehow I never want to share or give them away. Thinking about those sweaters takes me back to the times when my juvenile brain believed Sweater were made by Moms only. To me there was no such concept of buying woolens from market.

My Mum used to knit for hours and hours at a stretch and every time she got back-ache she was thoroughly determined to quit. That determination used to last only till she laid eyes on a beautiful sweater/cardigan in the latest magazine. The next day she was in the store buying pink, blue, green, textured, thick, thin wool. What I still wonder and admire the most is that how could she knit so fast while watching TV or chatting with her friends. Hats off to that!

I've learnt knitting from my Mum and my first Objet d'art was a blue and red lilliput sweater for my Barbie. To me my Mum is an Artist who not only knitted woolens but also love, care and values with those ingenious pieces which I still cherish.

Apparently I have narrated the whole story without mentioning the context ;) I guess that happens often when you talk about something very close to your heart.

The sweater I am wearing in the #OOTD (outfit of the day) photo is from ZARA knit. It comfortable, warm and the knitting texture always reminds me of my Mum's vintage sweater collection. I have combined a silver necklace with the black to pep it up for a lively day.

Blissful Autumn Leaves......

Gosh! What a hectic week it has been. Well I can't complain, its almost year end. All my friends in financial sectors would appreciate the significance of an year end. The gone week I didn't sleep for more than 4 hrs any night. Thank god its over. Though this won't get any better until December yet I am happy its Autumn :) The moment I step outside my office, the beautiful blush-bursting autumn with its delightful colors all around fills up my heart with liveliness. The brown, mustard, olive colors are brimming with warmth and romance. Stockholm is most picturesque in autumn. No one could have described the feeling better than Albert Camus who says “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”

Enjoy the season and an autumn look from my wardrobe!

Autumn Tip - Before the snow hit you place wear as many short skirts as possible, with a legging though :)

Skirt & Sweat!

Remember this dalmatian sweatshirt from one of my earliest posts? Its lovely, isn't it! Don't worry this post isn't about my perpetual exhibition of love for this sweatshirt ;) I actually have a styling tip for all you who c
an associate a sweatshirt only with a pair of jeans. Forget it!

As per the little birdie who snoops the latest trends for me, you can pair up a up sporty sweatshirt with a pencil knee length skirt for perfect street style ensemble. The length of the skirt I am wearing is perfect for cold season. I like this one for its embossed texture which differentiates it from a dull plain black skirt.

Have fun experimenting and do share the experience!

No I wasn't out for a Peace event with my white outfit. However something was very serene about the day so I decided to wear some contrast to the colorful bright yellow, mustard, red autumn leaves outside.

White is such a powerful
, versatile color that it just lights up any color paired with it. I love my White legging, I can wear them with every jumper in my wardrobe. If you don't have it yet, go get one! The studded white shirt is my favorite too. Well, I say that for almost everything isn't it ;)? As I said in 'about me' I call fashion a 'wearable art' and I love everything about it.

This time I've also tried to do my hair different with asymmetrical wrap around plait. Hope you like it! Its quite simple but if you want me to do a DIY video for you, just shout it here.

Look of the day - The Leather Obsession!

Did you know I have a twin ;)

Jokes apart, Leather has always been symbolic for chic and fashion forward wardrobes and this season it has become a part of mine too. My precious is a burgundy faux leather skirt and I am totally in love with it. I wore this look last weekend for my much awaited birthday party. It was so much fun with friends, we danced our hearts out after having special b'day shots.

I paired the skirt with a cute black floral top with peter pan leather collars to get a lady like dainty look. If you want a sporty look try it with a sweatshirt.

Peach and Stripes

Before I moved to Sweden, being an Asian I was so accustomed to the hurly-burly, door bell ringing twenty times a day, people dropping just to greet you, that this peaceful noiseless country was a monumental cultural shock to me.

Looking at the brighter side, after experiencing the numbing winter and everlasting gloomy clouds, I started appreciating sun, flowers, colors more than ever. The short summer we experience now is nothing less than being in heaven. Talking about colors, last summer introduced me to the wonderful peach color and ever since I am a fan. So, this summer I bought this peach pant and before we transpose into the Eskimo dressing mode, I want to make the best out of it.

Friday morning for work, I teamed up my peach pants with a striped Tee (which is an absolute must have for every wardrobe, makes life so easy), and a black hosiery coat.
I hope you like the look of the day. Do you?

Street style Chambray

As promised to my dear friend, here is a post on how can you wear a chambray shirt other than with a skirt or a trouser. My favorite and the one I am sharing with you all is to wear it like an Overshirt!

You can rock this street style casual look with any top and a skinny jeans or like a jacket with a contrast colored dress. Because Chambray is so neutral, its perfect to team it up with bright colors or pattern mix. Add accessories a like belt to blend the different pieces together. Or keep it classic with black or white jeans. In fall/winter add a scarf.

For those who have not heard about Chambray, it is a fabric which looks like denim but feels like linen.
Its glossy, lightweight & comfortable which makes it fascinating.

Tell me how you think about the looks?

Look of the day - TRIBAL fashion

I am head over heels in love with this vibrant patterned skirt from H&M tribal collection. The popping out colors just make me so happy every time I see it. I wore it for a birthday party last night and decided to include it in today's post.
Playing with colors can be fun however if you're anxious of making bold statements, the trick is to combine your colorful item with a solid color which should not necessarily be neutral black, white or grey.

Real "Stud"

My first gold studded clutch. This little black beauty is one of my favorite little thing lately. Spikes & Studs is the most popular trend in this season. Gold and black is totally my kind of thing and studs on top just make is so tempting. Trust me the photo doesn't do justice to this sweet little thing. I will soon do an outfit post with the clutch. Keep an eye out for it!

Ma Birthday Post

I had a brilliant birthday yesterday. Took the day off from work, woke up just before noon, wore my favorite dress, had a fancy dinner at a water front restaurant close to the city. It couldn't have been better.
In the evening I was totally baffled on what to wear for dinner and after a round of trials I decided to go for a blingy greyish boucle like textured dress.

It was a cold day yesterday thus I slipped into a nice fitted black trenchcoat and ankled boots, all set for a delectable evening. The Italian restaurant was cozy with vintage earthy decor and fragrance of fresh baked herb and garlic bread was heavenly. The water front was so stunning that just at a glance I knew I want to have some photos there. Enjoy the scenic Stockholm and my birthday styling.

Grey silver textured dress is from Zara.
Black trenchcoat is from Mango
